TAQs: Twice Asked Questions

What is Gnomon?
Gnomon is a steampunk-esque graphic novel (or more accurately novella) set in a world somewhat similar to our own in a past that never was. Airships rule the sky, steam-men walk, roll, trudge, jostle or generally stumble the street and you can buy a three course meal for a shilling and still have change for a pint of gin…. Assuming you can afford a shilling?

Yeah, but what is it?
A gnomon is the pointy bit of a sundial that fails to cast a shadow because it’s so overcast.

That’s a weird name for a comic. Why did you call it that?
Gnomon was originally the title of a novella I started writing as part of a trilogy called Widdershins (indeed the plot is identical but for a few minor tweaks as a result of the change of format). The meaning of the word itself is ‘that which reveals’, suitable as the story of gnomon sets in motion the dramatic events of the later books.

Are you going to put the other stories online?
Depending on demand I may serialize sextant and sunwise (the respective names of the second and third story) or turn them into graphic novel format as done with gnomon.

What is steampunk?
There is no set definition but a fairly even interpretation is a form of speculative fiction where steam power is the dominant force. Another interpretation is history geeks who like goggles.

That Sounds Like Fun
That's not a question. But it is fun!

What's your favorite word?
Umm... Cedar. Not sure why, it's just sounds right.
